Macau ID & Food

October 21, 2009 - 6:21 pm  Print This 5 Comments

Hola, it’s been a month since I last visited Macau. Now let’s blog about the food and interior architecture that I’ve came across. This series, I will be presenting you some of Macau’s flawless interior design that will blow you off the coast. The abstract were precise. Check on.

Alright, City of Dreams is an interesting place to be. It’s transforming from the old Macau into a 21st century entertainment city, located at the Cotai Strip. The Venetian is just right opposite the main road. Boredom? Fear not. There’s a free show every 30 minutes in the 4D spherical hall (or what they called, The Bubble) about the legend of the dragon (sort of). Am almost impressed with the cinematic effects. It looks surreal. Basically,  this is all about Hard Rock Hotel, shopping podium, casino and fine dining. You just need some cash to spare. Just like Katy Perry’s Waking Up In Vegas…

Oh, I love this song…

That’s a huge ceiling light.  Looks spiky!

Now these are made of wooden sticks.

Part of the wall lays outside

That’s Joe @ an ample space with some cool ceiling lights.

Oval shape ceiling lights

Mind if I play some reflection

This is haute ID I reckon

Very much like our Iban’s fishing basket. Haha!

Some abstract and pattern~

Shutter speed go rounds!

Now this steel bars are extremely long and huge, on the way to Hard Rock Cafe. Hmph, I wonder if the xylophone tunes produced are adjustable.

Another angle of this marvelous ceiling light!

One more crimson shot.

Another wooden / steel panel

The Boulevard @ City of Dreams

"Total Imaginary"

"The flamboyant puzzle"

Looks, it’s Venetian, just opposite the road.

Well I had Japanese Ramen. Not bad! The ground stuff is edible bamboo shoot.

Later on, shop @ Venetian and this is Gondola. Never got to try on but will try it in Venice one day. :D

A PO Box!

Food. Oh.. Food! I can’t live without. Hmph…Some dish was delicately marvel that it pursue our taste bud of having more and more but generally, it’s piquant for everyone. What fascinate me was the blend of ingredients used which are much simpler that you could almost DIY anytime from your kitchen. Say, the Macanese Pork Chop Bun or even the All-Famous Crab Porridge. Slurpie was what I could described as.

Here’s my breakfast from the hotel, croissant with a cup of coffee and orange juice.

An egg with ham. Yeah, it does looks like a smiley face. hahaha!

This lunch was taken at one of the restaurant downtown. I’ve forgotten the name though. It’s a buffet. Cod Fish with salad.

2nd round. Pork chop with plain fried rice and mild vegetable soup.

Did I mentioned I won some cash? Yes! But I lost it back somehow. Lesson be learn but never listened. The disguised tempt were there but it felt almost unlike yourself being rattled with sensational sphree of winning big. I regretted of being greedy. My downfall had set me back for a while until tony & his wife bought us for an early breakfast. It was 3AM and the streets was almost deserted. There, we saw a medium-sized coffee shop which was still operational and decided to give it a try and fill up our stomach. We ordered wanton noodle and crab porridge but unfortunately their pork chop was sold out. Dish was served within 5 minutes and I twinkled on that huge pot of crab sunk into the porridge.  Mild ginger odor fill out the entire space. Out in the gulp, I ingested the porridge within seconds even though it’s hot but of course, the hard shell took some time to crack, and the meat was sweet alright. A bowl like that typically cost around HK$250-300.

"This is marvelous. Definitely one of the finest porridge I ever had – The Crab Porridge."

For every spoonful consumed, it had brought me into oblivion and forgotten the lost (money) that I’ve been through. HKD$700 not a lot actually but with that I can eat a lot. HAHAHAHA! Glad I had those and guess what? The next afternoon, we revisited the same cafe again with the same crab porridge, along with crab noodle and popular Macanese pork chop bun. We enjoyed and definitely worth for every penny spent. But hail, it was my boss treat. haha, even better :)

Claypot Crab Noodle. Heavenly.

Crab Porridge. Man, the porridge was crushed and watery & crab’s sweet but not that fleshy.
But… I like! I give it a 6/6 :D

Macanese Pork Chop Bun. They put tons of pepper on it but still good.

This is Cafe E.S.Kimo. Doesn’t look like eskimo nor cozy at all but rather, wooden planks based interior with black rigid sofa. Kinda dislike the smoking environment though. Their government should set a ban for smoking inside premises which is very bad for non-smokers. The food on the other hand, was fine and of all the dishes served, the pork belly was the ultimate of them all but it’s a bit too salty. I agree with that but the meat was entirely braised with essential herbs – no wonder it tasted so good. Best served with plain rice. :) Should you give this restaurant a try if you drop by.

Gyudon / Beef with rice & Veggie and an egg. Not bad, especially with an empty stomach.

Eggplant with Japanese spicy bean curd with veggie

Caesar salad with bacon bits and bread crumb…

The mighty pork belly. Man this is the most tasty pork belly on earth!

Hope you enjoyed~

The Onozuka Experience

When I was in Macau, I saunter around the St. Paul Ruins but that striking sun was holding me off to the shade. I sat on the barricade and something unusual caught my attention. An artist with a pen! Without hesitant, I greeted this stranger with a HI. I flaunt my SLR and asked for permission of taking his photograph, he was surprised and agreed upon. Later on, we shared some light insights of similar hobby possessions (when I was young) and surprised to know that he’s a japanese. Well, I didn’t get to chat further as my schedule was pretty tight on that very day.

After our e-mail exchange, I just got to know that he likes drawing abroad, and travels with his pen around, on the palm and vacillate with his mechanical pen. Hmm… the scale that’s much more lightweight than norm watercolor schema that had driven my desire to understand it further. Astringed as it seemed and the tools used were entirely portable. Beam on, I think I had found some art treasures in that region (Macau) on that particular day (Saturday). Speculate on, the lineweight is just right for my eyes as I enjoyed the live presentation on the spot albeit it’s just a short few minutes. :) Anyway, nice to know you Hideo :D

Hideo on his unique paint brush (that’s what made me curious as I never seen such paint brush before) and finished lines.

The smallest tray I ever seen. Mixing color is fun.

Color fill on the surface.

A holder is required for firmity and remain flat surface, but usually unclipped during the fills to avoid marks.

Out of the box, how portable was that :D

Here are some of Hideo’s work, that I regained permission for publishing it on this site.

St. Paul Ruins as drawn above. Simple, sketchy n’ lovely.

Another piece from St. Lawrence Church.

This is The Chapel of our Lady of Penha. I adore this piece for the medieval structures.

Some other works of Hideo during his summer vacation in Spain. This is Casa Milà.

Another great piece of La Sagrada Família, Spain. Simply an intrigue. Look at those line details drawn…
Should I say sparks of the indemnity… However the cranes are a bit distracting :P

Last piece here of Santa Maria Del Mar, Barcelona.

Thank you Hideo of sharing this :)

Well, our dinner and dance held successfully from Macau Tower 360° dine-in to some local pubs shootout & booze and later, Tune Karaoke & Bar for our lucky draws. Not too bad for the night. Two 42" LCD Plasma TV were won by Sarach & Noemi with HKD$5k each. Not much luck this year :) oh well… The event ended @ 1AM and time for some luck on the wheels in the casino.

Here’s my gambling history for this trip. First night I loss HKD$450+ @ Wynn but on the second night, I won a jackpot (on the slot machine) that’s x500 of my total credit which was HKD$500. I was greedy and thought sheer luck was at my side and played along baccarat with the bosses (minimum bet placed was HKD$300), but…. luck’s not on my side, eventually loss $700 :) No worries it’s just a game. And my boss won a staggering HKD$70,000 or more on the baccarat game alone. Greed is good but I reminded myself, that self-control matters :)

Macau – P1

Macau, a country that had been under the Portuguese colonial for hundreds of years, now part of China – it is one of the country in Asia with the most casinos or what we called – The Oriental Las Vegas. The weather, hotter than our region that it is a challenge to walk under tedious striking sun which drenched your back easily. We were then escorted by Daniel, our tour guide to President Hotel which is located at the heart of the city, where all the casinos gathered.

We checked-in and had some short nap after that 4 hours flight. My room mate, a chinese national were pretty delighted that it was his first time in Macau. He claimed that chinese from the mainland had a hard time going overseas and most of the time, visas are required with  supporting documents for authority’s reassurance. An hour later, we jaunt around the area for something pleasant, at least let me try out that famous Portuguese egg tart that I’ve been long craved for.

Along, my room mate complained bout’ that ultra expensive calls back to China, that it ripped off his MOP$20 within minutes on the public phone. At least, he got to listen to his wife’s voice. Frustrated no more, he opt for looking into a one night stand package. I was retard for his studing intentions. Naughty I thought! From Russians to local taste, it’s not cheap after he peeped on the price so he called off the plan. LoL. Not only that, those prostitution went on the street boldly with illustrations / photos with contacts. O_O;; Well, definitely not for me :P Those lust are for pleasure seekers.

So, we came by 7-eleven mart and tried on the local ’satay’ and fish ball. It’s as good as the Hong Kong’s.

6.30pm sharp, we were then escorted to Macau Tower for the 360° (Café) dining experience, haute extend that’s 1000 feet above ground with stunning & breathtaking view atop, spinning gradually, that it was a night to remember. What’s more to say on those medley unlimited international cuisines range from The Mediterranean, Italian, oriental, Japanese and The Portugese. The define was right – exquisite. Price from S$60+ (MOP$288+) per pax, expensive but worthwhile.

While I was in the plane. Cough Cough~ Hey did I work for Jetstar? LOL!

Our tour guide, Daniel. His english is good :D

That’s Macau Tower with Ponte de Amizade (bridge)

That’s Macau’s Science Center which is still under construction

Macau Tower @ Wynn. Wynn is a high end hotel & boutiques just opposite our President Hotel. There’s a total computerize performance in the lobby hall with the tree of prosperity rising from the bottom and that huge lamp from the top. Also, the fountain performance outside. For once, I thought I was in Disneyland. HAHAHA! Stunning I’d say. Check it out here (somebody took that).

There’s a variety for this fishball, especially the Curry (ๅŠ ๅ“ฉ้ฑผๆ—ฆ) ones but due to my cough, I refrained those instead, I prefer light soy sauce with sesame oil. OMG! It’s really good!

On the way to Macau Tower. That lotus-like building is The Grand Lisboa Hotel

Now we reached, let’s go up that tower. Reached within a minute.

In the tower, I was lucky to witness the sunset. :)

The Yolk!

All colleagues enjoying themselves while I was shooting behind. :P Yeah, I was hungry that time.
