Visiting Langkawi – Day2&3

July 4, 2009 - 1:38 pm  Print This 5 Comments

Previously @ Langkawi

Morning call at 6am, and still lying there like a slob, no breakfast for the morning which was pretty odd in a 5 star resort, so we head east of the island, Tanjung Rhu for an adventure route, thy boat ride on mangrove forest, eagle feeding, crocs’ cave, bats cave, fishing farm and open sea ride.

Along the Jalan Teluk Eu (Route 113), we came by a road stall selling breakfast; fried noodle, malay delights or what they called ‘kuih-muih’, nasi lemak etc. I know what’s it like when you compare a coffee shop with these but no worries, as the chinese says, "sarcastically growing up unhyginical" or ่‚ฎ่„ๅƒ่‚ฎ่„ๅคง. Surprisingly the fried ‘kueh tiaw’ (rice noodle, ๆžœๆก) tastes good and I had 3 packs (noodle prepared in packets @ RM0.50 pp) of them. Cheap? hell yeah. where can you find such cheap food these days, I guess the stall caters well for passed bys and villagers around. Excursionist like us was glad & lucky enough to try out food from the outskirt and as well, snapping poultry along the hamlet. So this is free and easy all about.

We arrived Tanjung Rhu by 9.10am, end of Route 111; boatmen and registration counter to be seen, we realized ,"this is it! let’s start off the day" but thunder claps worried us a while as omnious cloud formed in minutes, sign of thunderstorms approaching, we prayed but to no avail. It still rained! We paid RM210 (after some minor bargains) for a boat and still have to continue on with the journey.

Images on the count : 93 (Patience of Downloading it :P might take up some of your bandwidth here)

Early booze, care for drink before we leave for Tanjung Rhu?

After our road side breakfast, we came by this black sand beach.

Take some breath on the open sea

Black sand beach? Looks like white shores to me. Probably not this part of the beach…

Maybe further down hahahaa That’s dan there

Purposely tilt the color close to sunset. Hope you like it

Have some Pee on the Black sand Beach. Wahahahahhah!

We arrived Tanjun Rhu later on

Let’s go Let’s go…

Spot eagles and wild life

The Mangrove on Salin, heard it’s capable to reduce tidal waves inpact

Eagle!! You need a high speed tele lens for this.. Mine’s far off!

More eagles grabbing chicken skin. Dunno why they fancy chicken skin…

Flew off in seconds, movement & speed is crucial

There… a few eagles on the Mangrove Tree. The sky’s getting gloomy…

The mangrove is vital, a shoot’s able to germinate independently with the help of the parent tree

A monkey spotted on the roots, how lonely. It was raining hard that time…

We’re inside crocodile cave, which was once proclaimed as crocodile’s nest. Now, all crocs been captured and left over was this dark gloomy cave off the isle.

Heavy downpours

There, fishing farm & restaurant. It was 10am and restaurant open @ 12pm!! However, fish feeding @ RM5 is open for public.

Now the rain stopped

Let’s move on to another sight

Another drop off location – not. We’re heading for bat cave

Mist of clouds @ rear after the rain

Almost there almost there

Hop scotch @ Bat cave. Nothing much to see other than a gloomy cave really… yeah, spotted bats with stench around…

Is that Krabby Crab? HAHAHAHHA!

I just love that red Chela~ Kiap Kiap~

Common monkey to be seen looking for food; wet fur after the rain

Contemplating there…. :P

Spotting lice?

We were inside KILIM GEOFOREST PARK …

Now the Open Sea Ride for 15 mins… that’s Sea Fire Fighter there.. Dark Clouds ahead.

The mysterious cloud again…

Back on the haven, one of the boat @ bay

And from Route 111 head down south to Route 115 took approximately 40 mins, Pantai Chenang is the place. I was dumbfounded with this place, it was so lively that it looks similar to Bali’s Jalan Danau Tamblingan, with restaurants ranging from mexican to mediterranian, italian, english and asian cuisine. You just need the cash to dine in that’s all and as well quite a number of FREE TAX shops but surveyed around and found some goods overpriced, as compared to Singapore’s and still, tobacco , liquor & beer consider cheap here. I even laughed when I saw a can of beer at the pricetag of RM1.60. HAHAHAH! Lunch time we paid a visit to Kung Fu Restaurant…

Restaurant looks decent for the interior with authentic settings and some martial arts character and weapons.

To name a few, we have Bruce Lee, Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung, and our Malaysian Icon, Michelle Yeoh etc..! :D

That’s a heavy ‘Guan Dao’ (้—œๅˆ€) / Green Dragon Crescent Blade by Guan Yu (้—œ็พฝ)
Heavy though, 5KGs.

Jeng would love to be Jet Li in mind

Dan as Bruce Bras Lee hahhhaha!

Ultraman?

Okay Yip Mun would do hahhaah!

And I wish I could but couldn’t cuz I’m the driver :P

Canto noodle (served 2)

Looks like Buddha Jump Over The Wall aye? No No..
This is Seafood Claypot

Sweet & Spicy Squid. Not bad, I like this…

Kailan & Veggie.. More More…. I love veggie~

Steamed Snapper Fish. Taste okay, fresh it seemed…

This meal :

On the way back to our resort, we took another 40 minutes and along, we bump on a road stall selling local delicacies (location here), the Kuihs. The pisang goreng was awesome and we had 2 plates of it. Make a wild guess of the price? RM1 for 5 pcs and some tips here, if you praise the owner of her pisang goreng, you’ll get 2 pcs for free hahahaha! Good enough to fill up growling stomach of mine. It’s worth a try!

On the table…

Deep fried prawn clot

Cut Cut Cut Cut

Sardine bread rolls

Currfy Puff

Pandan Rice coconut rice and malay popiah behind…

RM3 per coconut and.. let’s feast! I thought we just had lunch? Oh nevermind… :P

Oh look @ the coconut meat!

Prawn clot with sweet satay sauce! YUMMYZ!

Ah, we stopped by somewhere and have some cow shoot! LOL

Lovely calf!

Langkawi Fall 5 minutes drive from Resort. We thought it was a huge waterfall and bumped on a few tourists complaining about it, well it’s a small ones but rainy day should be some huge waterfall here.. too bad.

Monkey See Monkey Do. And this monkey here’s looking for food in the bin.

Jackfruit omg!!!!

Back @ our resort, I snapped leaf and…

Something caught my attention…

I was delighted and almost felt hysterical to see one, two, three, romping here and there…

Spectacled Langur (a.k.a. Dusky Leaf Monkey), a leaf eating monkey just outside our room, it’s amazing & intrigue moment to get that close with wild life.

Dusky Leaf Monkey moving around for crunchy leaf :P

Omg so cute!

Now here’s a clear one.  I did put mangosteen on the balcony but it doesn’t seemed interested of it..

6pm, another 40 minutes of journey down to Kuah Town for the Night Market and here’s what we saw…

Apam Balik? hahhaa not too sure but sounds similar here.
Clot with peanut crust, butter, and corn

Hawkers on the wok…

The crowds @ Night Market. It was 7pm.. still so bright.. omg!

Now that’s coconut startch in the bamboo cup

I had those.. Roti Canai? Filling was curry beef and egg, too oily.

Another malay delicacy, not too sure what’s it but interesting presentation there…

<Avast> This was where our car broke down. Refer post 1 </Avast>

10pm… we paid Kitta Seafood Restaurant a visit again and this time, different dish on the table.

Lights

The restaurant

Appetizer, Sweet & Sour Beancurd

Light stir fried Kai Lan again…

Spicy squid with onions

Pissing Prawn with steamed egg

This Meal :

Total Bill : RM159

Time for some Cigar that I bought earlier on @ RM10… mine was premium and the other belongs to Jeng

Check it out

Don’t be mistaken, I don’t smoke and if I did, that was long ago back in Form 5. I quitted for years and smoking is not my thing. Just wanna ‘taste’ how cigar’s like. Conclusion : Minty, Chilling on throat (on inhale & exhale) and it CHOCKED!

Uhm… if mom sees this.. she’s gonna nag!

It chocked!

Make some smoke there, playing around with.

A cigar and a can of beer

Some chill there while yabber…

The next morning…. I pay the beach a visit, just a few steps away

Paradise….

Our resort

Leaf on the sandy shores

A glimpse

Some rocks

Best of all, love shape leaf~

We checked out, and drove our way to airport, along with Asahi (ใ‚ขใ‚ตใƒ’)… ah!!! Embarked @ 10.30am and that’s a wrap. A 3D2N trip, not bad after all and hope to come back again with those crazy booze. :D

Before depart, I had Cajon Chicken Dome @ Starbucks.

The End

(hope you enjoyed)

Visiting Langkawi – Day 1

June 30, 2009 - 11:10 am  Print This 3 Comments

Oh, Langkawi….

An island bound north,
Inhabited with wildlife,
For millions of years – untouched,
The green preserved in sheer abundance,
And friendliness of locals engaged,
With spirits and joy that,
Installations in Oriental Village attracts and,
Freewheeling at Langkawi Falls,
Dormy on the go,
Along with cheap beers & tobacco,
Next to the sandy shores of The Andaman.

We touched down at 10.30am and first impression on the airport was… "wow, it looks exactly like our old Kuching’s International Airport,  just without the passenger sky bridge". Glad MOH’s deployed apparatus to monitor inbound passengers for body temperature scan; prevention of the pandemic spread of swine flu before the immigration counters. I was a bit exasperated to see the uncle at the ‘Malaysian Passport’ immigration counter (the other 2 immigration counters were marked ‘Foreign Passport’, operating smoothly) wandering around while a few Malaysians were queuing up on the lane awaiting clearance, some nagged but the response was "Please wait…" We have no choice but to halt for quite a while at the ‘Foreign Passport’ lane since the automated machine was not functioning as well. How ridicule to have such a sloth working in such department. Oh well.

Then we saw a row of booth for car rentals, not knowing which to choose, we approached but I suspect that all booth were operated under the same company. Salesman ask one another if this or that car’s available for rent. LOL. So, we’re in a dilemma of picking our vehicle as the price varies – according to capacity and brand. We go for Kembara @ RM140 (3D2N) but  god knows this so called 4WD died off on the highway @ Jalan Padang Matsirat on the 2nd night but fortunately we managed to get a replacement within half an hour – a Wira after lodging calls to the person in charge. Pretty consistent I’d say. On the wait,  we had a tea break by the road stalls and we’re being greeted with rambutans from a lady at her 50s’ accompanied with her grandchildren playing carom aside… some heart-warming sight I chanced upon…

Well, Langkawi has been given a World Geopark status by UNESCO back in 2007 and all goods in the zone are free of taxes. A can of beer @ RM1.60 which is much more cheaper than a glass of fruit juice / coke, and a premium cigar at only RM10. Owww! Drink till you puke was in fact true ya know? I had couple of cans there and on the wheels, Asahi booze with cottage fries was simply amazing as it keeps you awaken  (on the munch)… and everyone treats it like normal drinking water… LOL!

Hmm.. some notes to drop here that I drove an estimated 200km in this island, RM30 petrol filled, Day 1 – vice versa from Airport (Jalan Kuala Teriang, Route 114) to The Andaman Resort (Jalang Datai, Route 161), and from resort to Eagle Square Statue (Persiaran Putera, Route 110), Langkawi Cable Car (Kampung Teluk Burau, Route 113/272), Kuala Muda Sunset (Jalan Kuala Muda, Route 115), Dinner @ Kitta Seafood Restaurant (Jalan Pantai Kok, Route 114), and back to resort (Jalan Datai, Route 161). Day 2 – from resort to Jalan Tanjung Rhu, Route 111 for Eagle feeding, Mangroove boat ride, Caves etc. After that, we head south for lunch (Jalan Pantai Tengah, Route 115/117), Langkawi Waterfall (Jalan Datai, Route 161), took some rest and bound south east to Kuah Weekend Night Market (Lencongan Putra 3, Route 165), engine ignition died off, S.O.S, and back to Kitta Seafood Restaurant for dinner (Jalan Pantai Kok, Route 114), and back to resort. Day 3 – Resort to Airport. This was a crazy short trip!

Enjoy the post (hmmm.. a lot of difference between laptop & crt display :P ) …

Around Telaga Harbour @ Jalan Pantai Kok (Route 114)

Dan & Isa

The structures here don’t look ‘islam’ at all, mediterranean archictecture? :P

Langkawi / Penang Laksa (Odd Taste)

Sunset @ Kuala Muda with kids on gaiety mode.

Sunset @ Kuala Muda with a boat

Boat’s moving forward!

Sweet Chilly Crab (Awesome)

Stir fried Kai Lan (Less Oily)

I was still hungry so I ordered another plate, Canto fried noodle…
I prefer fried noodle instead.

Okay, time for some booze really… RM22 per half dozen
I prefer Asahi :P

Stay tune for Part 2.
