A ‘Sinful’ Dinner

November 6, 2009 - 1:50 am  Print This 4 Comments

A week ago, I had a pleasant reunion with a few high school girls and they literally look the same as before – just slightly more humorous. Ah, I still remembered I sat next to Amanda while Ma and Michelle sat just two rows away from me. That time, every students in the school was pretty dynamic and some (like me) cluttered from one class to another, making new friends.

Well, not everyone that I came across are friendly. Some were kinda ego while some are relatively funny with scornful remarks but I passed that. In my dictionary, there's nothing called "hate your enemy forever". You gotta live with the community even if you're being outcasted or being 'disentertained'. Hehe. Good thing was, there's still positive individual around us who's willing to help, encourage and push you forward, even if there's a shun, the pinch won't be severe thanks to the supportive roles from them.

Of course, the hip of all – Gossips. There were all around and it never stops. Then, there's always new stories popping-in every week but it didn't rubbed my ears off either, instead, I listened. it went deep into the brain, orbiting around my cranium - wondering what's next from the girls. I was an up-close individual but sometimes when mood ratchet – I would think of why and how the ladies could bring up the same topic over and over again; being voluble without getting tired of. Then I thought, "Ah, ladies~ that's their instinct and nature to gossip. " I just have to absorb! That's where I got to know fractions of gossips or even where abouts. Information counter? Possibly yes… that's me!

Back to Vivo, we yabbered bout' our school days and reminisced some old moments together and we really could go on for the entire night whilst waiting for 'Virgo' cruise to depart, and merely missed our last train home. It had been, since – 9 years we last saw one another and glad to see those glimmer faces again.

The series here are dedicated to each and everyone of us… Amanda, Ma, Michelle & Me. ^^; Sweet friendship~

Michelle & Ma. Hmm.. Ma stopped by SG last week for some Shopping Frenzy! Haha.. She couldn't take that long journey in the train. Well, Kuchingites prefer driving more. As for me, both can do :)

Amanda and her husband, Johnny. Just Married!~

The 3 Girls Reunion

Me in the slot :) We're 4B/5B mates :D That was long… wow!

Slacking around the stairs~

Michelle with her huge eyes O"O

Amanda with her charming smile.

Ma with her sexy posture

Me hanging around :P

Johnny relaxing while listened to his wife…

Alright, we had dinner @ HK Kim Gary @ Vivo City. I've tried similar restaurant  but compared with Singapore's, KL it's more or less the same, pricing wise – varies :D Conclusion for the food, still acceptable and presentable. There's one shot of dish that I missed out, The "One Bite Snack" Mini Drum. Some sort of Honey roasted drumsticks. =.=|| And why is it called A 'Sinful' Dinner? Easy…. I was supposed to be a vegetarian for that week. LOL! Abstinence failed.

French Toast

Mango & Coconut Milk Lure with Fench Style Fried Rice

Korean Noodle (Ramyun) with shredded meat, corn bits and egg.

Assorted Mushrooms with Asparagus (Cheesy style)

Roasted Honey Spare RIbs with Rice

Sweet Chicken drumstick

My dish, Roasted Spare Rib with Wedges and mushroom sauce (white sauce). I must say am amazed with the huge bones, scanty meat. LOL! Oh dear~~ Side dish like the honey roasted drumstick helps a little to fulfill my growling stomach.

~We enjoyed and I was super full~

Mid-Autumn 09′

October 7, 2009 - 4:48 pm  Print This No Comments

The mid-autumn festival was a good warp and fantastical. Honestly… throughout the years in my domicile, I hardly pay carpenter street (or chinatown) a visit unless necessary but mostly work related. Ah Great, the crowds were there to enjoy the snacks sold along the roadside with a few lanterns spotted along. Yeap, the foods were cheap and reasonable, even the very last sip of herbal drink costed me RM1 (usually RM1.50 or above).

Well I was being informed by catscity’s webbie that saturday night was the last night of celebration downtown, that’s where I got to know tits of this and that, even the "sun wu kung" (monkey god) parade was held along green road to riverfront if am not mistaken.

I came along some interesting stalls and knew that Kuchingites love to make people smile, :) at least some intrigues there to keep you entertain, snapping some photos and buy their products or services. Oh, am fine with that if the food looks appealing and presentable but generally it fits local taste bud more. ah ah ah! There’s an Iban present playing sape and the tunes really blown me away – sky rocket high. Every string tingles. Pleasant for my ears and sweet :D

It was over but the atmosphere was still clear in mind. The above phrase means "The moon here represents my heart, therefore, enjoy the family reunion and together, we celebrate this wonderful mid-autumn festival."

This was taken at my friend’s condo by the river bank. Do you see reflection?

Here you go, the huge moon @ mid-autumn. Now I can see the moon surface but where’s chang’e and the rabbit? LOL!

This is atap-kei / carpenter street / chinatown of Kuching

The crowds and roads stalls

Came across this couples promoting malay costume and they just sit down there and allowed me to snap.

The chicken wing stall. uhm…

RM1 per hair cut? That’s really absurd! I wonder wat’s the result then…

Looks good but seemed like a 10 mins QB-like cut. :P

Small small things like the souvenir are available too.

This guy’s giving free indo-mee. The hand hygiene or not? :P

Some chinese delicacy making. It’s something sweet but I can’t recall what the name was.

Passed by this Teochew oyster omelette (O-Jien) stall and aunty was very keen of performing in front of my lens. haha! There you go. The flip! Thanks a lot! You made my day. :D

Chicken stall again

This Iban guy was sitting down there playing Sape. I was then attracted by the tunes and it’s pretty melodic I’d say. The music had blown me thousand of miles away. You have to listen it for yourself (stole from somebody’s vid… credits to Jungle Mike of recording this with his D90)…

Like it?

Wow, I bumped on my secondary school fiend, Grace and her hubby. :D Why not a shot with the headhunter haha :) Fortunately Grace still recognized me. LOL!

The all famous Kuih Pulut. One of my favorite of all time. It’s sweet coconut starch with chili spice wrap in glutinous rice.

Huge cotton candy on sale @ RM1

Let’s see some action here. :D Yeah, he attracted the crowds. The fling in the air was awesome. This is what we called foody street performance. ahaha!

Slowly slowly slowly and turned into a huge cotton candy. kekeke!

I had this RM2 Fishball. Uhm…

Then we had supper at Life Cafe (Carpenter Street Branch). These are chinese dumplings.

Our beverages :D Easy lah!

I ordered this claypot mushroom rice and it was pretty salty. You need 2 glasses of water for this.

There, the mushroom slice and some dry shrimps chunks as garnishing

End of Mid-Autumn Festival

This Supper:

This trip was kinda tight for me as I had a few errands to accomplished, primilinary on house moving, friend’s wedding, and some minor things, but of course not forgetting to "ajak" some mates out for a drink. Well, laid back life style of Kuching you know… I did pay our new cinema – MBO (@ the spring) a visit, cozy, chilling but sound system not as good as I thought – flat. As well, Kuching kolo mee taste as good as before. Here’s some minimal updates from my facebook. Haha. Cheers!

We went Kim Bay @ The Spring for dinner on 04.10.09. Attendees : Me, Shirley, TM Law, Sorensen, MWSC, Jimmy
P/S : I-phone quality shots

Siew Mai

My Borch Soup… too much MSG >,.<

Baby Kailan

My Alfredo, creamy spaghetti with ham slice

Sorensen & Shirley’s beef cude & egg steamed with rice

TM’s portugese style chicken baked rice

This Meal :

The next morning…

I had a pleasant breakfast next to my shop, :D It’s KOLO MEE! It’s delicious alright with a glass of Teh-C-Peng. Ahhhh~! Just heavenly…

This Bowl of Noodle :

During Lunch Hour, I met Irene and re-visit Life Cafe. She introduced me SiChuan Spicy Noodle (四川麻辣面). Little spicy for this. :)

Also, the must try – onion pancake! It’s really good, made of flour and some green onions with egg.

A short Holiday 2 – Part 2

September 28, 2009 - 12:38 pm  Print This No Comments

Previously in Broga Hill – Part 1

(this is the longest passage I’ve ever wrote :) hope you don’t find it too much! hahahah!)

20.09.09 – yawnzzz!! aiks! Didn’t know I could sleep that late. Never knew time flies! It’s just like a bolt of lightning, feels like a walk of lining – that I woke up at 4am as timed but the cool weather outside kinda held me off a bit, I doze back. Awaken for the second time, it was 5am!!!!!! By the time we reach Broga hill, it’s gonna be bright and crowded for sure. Mike should have aroused me but he did woke up at 4am to see if am ready – instead he just let me snort there like a boar! omg!! Hahahahaha!

Time error this is, this is a day of mishap. First attempt was proclaimed a failure, a test, an initial experience but this very day were supposed to be a day of victory on the peak (not quite) but I failed myself once again. It was 5am and Mike thought we should just cancel the plan, oh well… Looks like a day of shopping sphree for me :) and yatta! Gonna meet my god-dad n’ god-ma (she’s gonna kill me if she see this, hahahaha XD). for late lunch. And ya… my phone "died off" temporary for this very day. How unfortunate could that be? No matter how long I charged, the battery indicator won’t rail positivsm. Was kinda worried back then cuz’ "appuru" battery replacement ain’t possible unlike Nokia’s untabbed and change procedure, screwed and sealed. Shit-tard phone design but I still love the software of simple app trigger, directorial! Okay enough of the crap mentioned, I’d drained the battery and let it "rest in peace" for 12 hours or more… @@" People were kinda upset that they couldn’t put me through! LOL!

So, we go for the plan and met Ad & Gabby at Jogoya Japanese Restaurant at starhill gallery. Yeap, a late lunch promo at 2pm onwards, and at the price of RM60++ per pax… eat all you can! But Mike reminded us not to get too addictive with buffet (he’s in the not-so-but-quite-similar-industry) as those food prepared were not entirely fresh, even if it says it bold – "FRESH SEAFOOD", it’s not as fresh as it seemed. Blatant remarks but very true. Most chefs would prepare quantity of food in advance before serving it, and yeah, it’s the quantity we’re talking about. Come to think of it, time and preparation in the kitchen, it’s not a kitchenettes but the magnitudes are unimaginable and part of the chef’s ensconced!

Food quality has always been deemed assured, on par or equal else quality dissection will put into place. Heck, most diners prefer quantity over quality (but chef themselves also have to assert what quality is about, avoiding shoddy food or possibly lead scornful remarks if it failed to satisfy diners taste buds). Even if Häagen-Dazs doesn’t taste that good, diners prefer to scooped a few rounds to gain back what’s worth they are paying for! :) Am I right? Probably brands n price that’s luring people but with limited time on enjoyment. What am gonna emphasis here is, no matter what you eat, quality as we speak, is never a cheap investment to bring you onto certain tantalizing stage.

So the 4 of us enjoyed the japanase sensation @ Jogoya. ~.~ – compared freshness wise, I think the food are more or less equal to those road side stalls. The sauce used was not zesty or interesting, which I found kinda dull. Ketchup sauce is ketchup sauce, frried fritters are fried fritters. You get what I mean?

The 2 hours+ of dine-in was insufficient as the buffet ended at 4.30pm. It’s like an announcement made to diners, "hey hey enough enjoyment here, time for you to leave" Well, of course, the announcement was proper. To be honest, my seats ain’t hot yet or they were too much things that I hadn’t try either or too much talking done? LOL! Wokay, I don’t even have time to scooped a few rounds of Häagen-Dazs, Gab was fast alright. LOL! Ad n’ Mike, well… they sound kinda full to the extreme at fullest. Oh, please! Nandwaeyo? You need some toilet after? :p

So we head to mid-valley’s, The Garden to have a short afternoon stroll till 9pm. Yada-yada… and had supper at popeye’s chain. Didn’t know the quantity of the food there were so much skimpy as compared to SG’s. Surprised with the price too. @.@

We returned home….

Well, that’s not all… my lens… 18-200mm VR got some minor shook (vibe) on the floor, a light knock that is -.-|| Was kinda upset with the motor intermitent… T.T To date, still similar issues. Looks like I have to send down to Nikon center for a repair. Ain’t cheap! A wild guess would be bout $300+ I was still blur that time, not knowing my motor probe until the next morning.

Bah, let’s not talk about this incident.. Did some micro blogging and doze off. So I charged my dead phone for another 6 hours….. it revived with perfection, as good as new!

21.09.09 – "chanting music" … haha that’s my alarm. Yeah woke up at 4am finally! Couldn’t help much with that heavy eyelid. Argh, struggling to lift my body up. Okay this time am really ready for the challenge but worried with my timing as I had a damn plane to catch at 11:50am. This time Mike brought along Wayne to hike along :) 3 of us set off by 4.30am and reached Broga foot hill at 5.30am I was astound to see so many cars parked by the roadside. We hurried off! There was a mass gang of 20+ but it seemed the leader of theirs were heading the wrong way to another end of the foot hill. LOL! Mike was right. We should leave (yeah, we did highlight the way but non of them ever listened, be it…) them and used the trails we came across the other night. Yeap we were right, they were wrong. We climbed and the rest, repeated routes as of Part 1 and took us another 40 minutes to reach the point, 10 minutes on another distinctive point and so. Broga hill and we finally made it! As compared to our first time experience, the second time was indeed an ease for real. Crazy snaps initiated.

After an hour on the hill, we descent down hill at 8am. Worry pondered. But fortunately there’s no glitch in between except for an almost  minor slip down hill :) Reached foot hill by 8.30am yeah I thought we’re heading back KL but looks like there’s some intrigues in front – a broga chinese temple!! I was restless then… Head back KL at 9am and took about an hour to reach @@.. Man I was starving but fortunately the energy bar and snickers help a lil’. So I took a shower to refresh myself and Off to KL Sentral. Thank you Mike for these few days accomodation and funs, SFW-ian rox!

Bought my ERL tix and planned to check in the counter there but that the staff there said I have to check in at airport! WTF? I knew time was insufficent but have to rush to the ERL as quick as possible. It was hasty alright. the train departed at 11am and worried again if I would miss my flight. I calculated but seemed like my time was running out. ERL would reach KLIA in 28 mins and that would be 11:30 then. By the time I reached the check-in counter should be close. I did logon the web (via iphone, on the way to KLIA) and tried to check-in but my printed details ain’t displaying the right info. The e-ticket input was entirely improper. I said to myself that I should have checked in online earlier but shit-tard I was not aware of such online check-in methods, a trend that follows air asia. I did googled further info bout’ the phone check-in. It went through… but the operator said I was not eligible for phone check-in. WTF again? I was totally exasperated and traumatised.

With a heavy mood, I reached the airport counter, it was really closed. Kind staff told me it was not possible to check-in at that time cuz’ I was destined to check-in an hour before flight. -.-| yeah eventhough it’s short haul, international flight – that’s the rule to be abide with. I really wanna F MAS really! 20 minutes should be sufficient for me to reach the gate if the telephone check-in or internet check-in was possible, in fact, it turned out like a crap! That’s why am never loyal fans to MAS Airlines. Exceptional case were not granted!  Oh well, I wangled around for options and saw Airasia, asked for the price but was told one flight left at 8pm @ RM450. That’s absurd! I can’t find Jetstar around so opt for Singapore Airlines. As enquired, RM440! Okay out my credit card, swipe it immediately without a second thought. No cash in advance so gotta do so. Bo-pienz. Singapore Airlines safe the day! Aeroplane scheduled to depart at 12:15pm. I was speechless with the MAS timing then, 11:50am and look what SIA gotta offer? 30 mins off the gate, there’s still room of negotiation. I was baffaled but at the same time, relived and felt the whole world was saved by a reputated carrier – SIA. No oblique but I think I would rate SIA as world’s best in skytrax compared to MAS! Expensive, I understand but you would rather spend something on worthiness than the unworthiness. MAS should just go to failblog.org

So I took the skytrain and scurried off. Mishap ah mishap! This was a real mishap! I felt comfortably secure while I was in SIA flight. I was super thirsty and requested for some drink from the air steward / stewardess, and I was pampared at fullest :D Grinnnnnnnnn! Reached SG at 1pm.  Moral of the story, never attempt something that might collide with your schedules but be sure that  you’re able to tackle it within reach, then just go with the boon!

I was in the train back home, this guy (with his girlfriend) offered me a seat, he stood up. I nodded and say thank you but when i looked at his eyes, he was referring to the old chap standing behind me! ARGH!!!!! Embarrassed!  Then, his girlfriend stood up and allowed me to sit on. Gy… There came a short message on my phone, another mishap on upcoming KCH trip…. Aghhhhhhhhhhh wrong ticket timing for my friend’s wedding…. derng derng….

-.-|| Gy.. how unlucky could 1 be… everything coming my way in just one day. ONE DAY!

—————————————————————

Just before meeting Ad n’ Gab, I had Mr. Baoz. Well, I can’t comment much on this as I’ve eaten this earlier on, last year. Mr. Baoz originated from Taiwan. First I thought it’s something unique, first bite into the mouth was. Uhm… innovated and enhanced Bao but second bite turned out pretty norm for me. :D Like those curry puff / red bean paste bao etc. etc. Frankly speaking, the baoz are overpriced! RM3.00 per piece? -.-’

A Short Holiday 2

September 23, 2009 - 12:40 pm  Print This 5 Comments

I never thought a short trip like that would turn havoc but fortunately things that could be settle with $ is really not an issue but of course the painstaking incident should not be repeated. Here’s my story.

Note : Some photos were back to basic – iPhone quality :)

18.09.09 – I took MAS Airline (code sharing with other airlines) from SG to KL with boeing aircraft 777-200 which was so pack that I merely thought the flight was bound long haul route. In fact, the 40 minutes ride was short and managed to spend some refreshing moments in the washroom albeit I had dismissed my beverage session. hahaha. No worries. Plane touched down at 10.20pm and was jez, the airport was so crowded that I almost got lost! Man, since when I last visited the KLIA International concourse? Ah that was 2003! As I observed some on-going renovations in the hub and a few hoardings being put up that confused me but thanks to the Information Counter for directions.

Later, I bought my ERL (KLIA Express) ticket @ RM35 and lame thing was the signage on the concourse leading me to the wrong direction, to KLIA Transit. I must say the signage of ‘KLIA Express’ was not conspicuous enough, leading me to the wrong way! I smeared at myself and murmured, "This airport so LP! That confusing signage is not bold enough! Somebody do something about it or else there will be tons of lost passenger like me." I sought help from nearby ticketing officers but luckily they instructed me well – in Bahasa Malaysia. I was stunned with that similar incident back then when I spoke English with them and they replied me in Bahasa Malaysia. Luckily I knew what the responses were but try to imagine if am a foreigner who doesn’t understand a single shit on their explaination – what leads might possibly be on such embarrasing situation with given an excuse that I came from a country which is not multi-cultural / language accessible. That, would be retard experience to some for sure. Well, same thing happened when I was at KL Central after 28 mins ride from the airport (via ERL). Asked if they knew where Hilton (just opposite that freaking KL Central) was, they shook their head with a "tak tahu" (Don’t know).

As a staff working there for years who have no idea where this Hilton was located, I was dumbfounded and marked with a vast disappointment. A central hub so called, goad off my intention for future visit (if I were a tourist). I have no allegations against the staff but come to think of it, if you couldn’t help the tourist with some simple directions with some simple language, who can? The medium was improper I thought. Tourist might as well hire private tours to avoid any mishaps or misguided instructions. Attitude wise, still acceptable with smiles, at least some positive credit there.

The time ticks 11pm, Mike picked me up opposite Hilton and off we go for supper. We came by this Canai stall near TARC  college which Mike found it relatively cheap with those fancy-fancy names printed on the menu – Roti Suzuki, Roti Yamaha etc… I ordered Canai Goreng, and Canai Cheese Bawang and love it to tits. One good thing about Malaysia are those provocative food that satisfied our taste buds at ease, from Indian Canai to Malay Satay, then Chinese Dim Sum or Roasted Pork! Ah, I guaranteed the food never lets you down. As compared to Singapore’s, I think the foods in Malaysia are less oily.

Fried Canai (Canai Goreng). Yeah, it does looks like char kueh teow with onions and curry powder in it :D It’s good & cheap mamak stall (somewhere near TARC College)!

Onion Cheese Canai (Cheese Bawang Canai). I love cheesy stuff so I can be/or feel cheesy! :D

It was almost 2am and settled down at Mike’s place. I was so tired, took a bath and decided to doze off but there came Mike’s crazy idea if we’d like to hike Broga Hill later – I simply nodded. We took a short 30 minutes nap, unprepared, unequipped with the essentials, but just some light snacks, torch light bought from nearby 7-11 mini mart and off we go. We left around 4.30am and with Mike’s "chiong chiong revolution", we’re set and bound Semenyih (Selangor district) without delay. The weather was pretty cool I recalled and passed by a few silly tolls and highways until we reached the entrance of the palm plantation which was just opposite the rabbit farm. A few cars were spotted, parked by the road side which possibly could be some hikers. I felt the chill and spookiness around as we stride inner, further but somehow we have to ramble off those rocky soil pavement and climb up the hill gradually. Fortunately, some waypoint were ready for hikers, at least we could guess where it’s heading. There’s a time we pondered if we should wait for incoming hikers at some point but we moved on. :D

As it was pitch dark, we have to beware of our surroundings and care of the slopes, steep and unbalanced surface. Can you imagine I hike with my jeans and a pair of Adidas shoes? Haha. That was entiringly wrong! Together with my 4kg of bag and Mike’s 2kg Manfrotto tripod (non carbon fiber), it was definitely a real challenge for me. Stamina and endurance required! We climb up and up and up and fret for mud slides and/or slippery treks.  Just half KM away to the top, droplets fell onto our cheeks and that really bothered us of the precarious way down. The wind was strong with my tees on, it was so damn chilling alright. Then, there were hikers on their way up, bump on us and greeted. We warned but some insisted to advance further so let it be. Mike had a hard time descending down hill as bottom part of his Nike Samba sneakers was ripped off. Haha… oh dear! I believe some had made it to the top and had some wonderful photo sessions there even after we descent down hill, no sun was in sight and the sky was still gloomy. Not long after, it drizzled…

Ahhhh. Mike was freaking tired. So am I. This was a mile away from the summit and/or half a mile away from the actual point.

Before we head back KL, we heard some unusuals at the Rabbit Farm. :D SFW (Sick Freakin Weirdo) sign!~~

Descending hill at a point, we halt for some scenery capture. The sky was gloomy and looks like it’s gonna rain heavily!

Setup tripod and ka-cha!!

Some clouds and mist :)

Spotted some wild orchids

Droplets and/or morning dew!

Stem droplets and/or morning dew

Snapping in the dark. Gawd. That pair of yellow shoes can throw away! hahaha!

When we reached city, we had some light breakfast. It’s never cheap. RM4.00 for this bowl of dumpling noodle. So Mike had dumpling noodle (KL style)

While I had chinese dim sum. Not as par as Hong Kong’s but so long as it filled my stomach for the morning… That char sew pau there not bad!

We had some light breakfast nearby Taman Desa and head back to the apartment to have some rest. Late evening (dinner time), I had this sudden crave for Korean cuisine which was just opposite the apartment so suggested Mike to bring me there to enjoy those sizzling dishes, indulging Korean culinary that’s really worth for the buck (actually he suggested me first :P ). The restaurant owner (a couple) also assist diners on meal preparations as I observed that they were pretty busy serving customers on each table. It took some times for diners & waiters to be entertained which reminds me of the all-famous Yahoo! game, Diner Dash.  Hahaha! Anyway, a 5/5 to this restaurant.

Sizzling Pork BBQ on the Korean skilet~ I smell it! Aw!!!
It’s called Dwaeji Galbi (돼지갈비) (RM30)

Bean sprouts and some other dishes behind

Banchan (반찬) served! That’s a lot! Some eggs, beef teppanyaki, veggie, pickles, sweet & spicy dried shredded squid, yada yada… most importantly, the seasoning sauce and a bowl of rice. Surprisingly… there’s no Kimchi! @@;

Bulgogi Jeongol (불고기전골) served! AHHH! Just like my mom’s culinary (cabbage soup). This one comes with pork, enoki mushroom, and some veggie. Slurpie!

Korean style steamed egg and/or egg custard (계란계란찜).

Dwaeji Galbi / pork with bbq mushrooms and garlic slice

Bulgogi Jeongol (불고기전골) or mixed Hot Pot! That’s a very huge portion there, sufficient for 2! Stuffy after having this really! (RM40)

How to eat Dwaeji Galbi? Easy! Wrap it just like the above!

만족!! It’s good!

A mouthful of indulgence!

So-Ju (소주) is warm and nice. :D (RM20)
So.. I had almost the whole bottle. tut tut tut.. Mike just had a glass =.=||

Here comes So-Ju!!!

This meal :

So there you go. That’s our Day 1 Experience. Both of us was totally restless and disappointed half way through but we still have some interesting stories to tell later on. Till then…
